Widely considered one of the greatest hatchbacks of all time, 500 Clio 182 Trophy’s were made for the UK Market to commemorate Renault ceasing production of the 172/182 Generation Renaultsport Clio.
Modern Classics magazine recently declared; “There’s nothing like a Trophy…Those Sachs dampers give the car spectacular poise, as if it’s hard-wired to your body. It really is the greatest quick Renault ever made. No other car on sale today is so much fun, let alone a ten-year-old one.”
This sentiment was echoed by Evo magazine which ranked the Clio 182 Trophy 7th in a list of the 100 greatest drivers cars of all time, just behind such illustrious company as the Porsche 996 GT3 and Caterham Superlight and concluded that the Clio Trophy “really is the zenith of the hot hatch”
TROPHY SPECIFIC FEATURES & MODIFICATIONS
All Clio Trophy’s were produced in the signature Capsicum Red paint. A larger, wider, Clio V6-style rear wing sets the Trophy apart, while inside a plaque mounted on both the seat runner shows the production number. Trophy logos are also located on the exterior.
The fantastic Recaro Trendline bucket seats are mounted lower than those in the standard Cup variant.
The front suspension is 10mm lower than on the 182 Cup and the springs are now stiffer by 20 per cent at the front and 15 per cent at the rear.
The car also sports uprated front hubs and a set of Speedline rims that save 1.3kg per corner.
The most notable addition to the Trophy of were the Sachs Racing suspension dampers, which are effectively racing dampers and cost about 10 times as much as the normal items. They feature a remote reservoir for the oil and gas, which allows a thicker and stiffer damper rod to be used.
The result of all these modifications is a driving experience best summed up by Top Gears Chris Harris; “the modifications turn what was already a car capable of shaming much more expensive machinery over most roads into something otherworldly. I have never driven a car like it. No other fast hot hatch adheres to the basic premise of what a hot hatch should do, nor the type of driving experience one should offer like this car. Its mind blowing.”
CONDITION & SPECIFICATION
The interior is in absolutely fabulous condition with absolutely no wear, bolster damage or blemishes to the Recaro Trendline's. The leather steering wheel is also in excellent condition. Infact the interior looks and smells like new!
The Speedline alloys are in amazing condition and have never been refurbished.. Brand new Yokohama AD08R tyres have recently been fitted to the car, which take the already spectacular handling, to a new level.
The exterior paintwork and body condition can only be described as immaculate with a Full Enhancement Detail recently undertaken. Our paint depth gauge showed consistent readings all over which indicate that the car still has its original factory paint.
You really will not find another Clio Trophy in as original and exceptional condition as this.
