The BMW F 850 GS Sport is a mid-sized adventure motorcycle that delivers a strong mix of road capability, off-road potential and modern technology. At its heart is an 853 cc parallel-twin engine producing 95 hp (70 kW) at 8,250 rpm and 92 Nm of torque at 6,250 rpm. This engine features a 90° crank-shaft offset with a 270/450° firing interval and dual counter-balancer shafts, yielding smoother operation and a more muscular sound compared to its predecessor.
Chassis and suspension also receive a significant overhaul: the F 850 GS Sport uses a steel bridge-frame , inverted 43 mm front forks and a cast aluminium swing arm with a centrally-mounted spring strut. The 21-inch front wheel and long suspension travel (about 204 mm front, 219 mm rear) mark it as genuinely capable off-road. With a seat height of around 860 mm (which can be lowered) and a filled weight of about 229 kg, it’s tall and substantial—but manageable by modern adventure standards.
Technology and rider aids are strong points. Basic riding modes (Road and Rain), ABS and ASC are standard. Optional upgrades on the Sport variant include ABS Pro, dynamic traction control, and “Enduro” or “Enduro Pro” modes—giving it serious credentials for mixed terrain riding. Fuel consumption is claimed at around 4.1 L/100 km, making it reasonably efficient given the class.
In summary, the 2018 F 850 GS Sport stands out as a well-rounded adventure bike: powerful, sophisticated, capable both on tarmac and light trails. Its height and weight make it better suited to riders comfortable with a larger machine, but for those looking for one bike to do many roles, it hits the mark.....
